THE Northern Rivers Guinea Pig Sanctuary is currently looking for homes for some of the animals it has in care.
The Guinea Pig Sanctuary at Alstonville provides shelter for unwanted or dumped guinea pigs and offers help and information to owners of these little critters.
“Guinea pigs are given a lot of TLC before they can be re-homed to new families,” Christina from the sanctuary said.
“These animals are often seen as ‘disposable pets’ as they usually cost next to nothing to obtain.
“A lot of people unfortunately have just as little respect for them as their price tag and so many of them end up in a hutch outside in the yard.
“Most people never get the chance to see what fantastic, affectionate and clever critters they can be because they don’t house them appropriately and don’t spend enough time with them.
“They may not need to be walked or vaccinated like a dog but they do need some bonding time, exercise and cleaning.”
The guinea pigs ready for adoption are healthy, guaranteed not pregnant and used to being handled.
If you are interested in giving one or two of them that special place, please go to www.guineapigs.org.au or phone the sanctuary on 6628 8591.
