Beattie all for political balance
SIPPING on his decaffeinated flat white coffee, former Labor Premier Peter Beattie put the case for a strong political front on the Sunshine Coast.
"We don't have any seats here anymore, which is not good in a sense of balance," he said.
"Some Labor voices on the Sunshine Coast means it's better off, if you have all one party they just get lazy.
"If you go to your local member and don't get what you want, you've got to have someone else to go to."
Mr Beattie was in Caloundra yesterday to support Labor candidate Christine Anthony's campaign for the seat of Caloundra at the election on March 24.
"A sense of balance, that's going to be one of the interesting issues here, what sort of balances comes out of the seats," Mr Beattie said.
The Sunshine Coast has become an LNP stronghold since Labor lost Noosa in 2006.
"We still had a Labor government; it just meant there wasn't a strong enough voice within the government.
"I'm not trying to be partisan when I say this, but it is better to have more than one voice, that way you have two options," Mr Beattie said.
