Be on the look-out for fake fifty dollar bills
A COUNTERFEIT bill used at South Tweed Tavern has left licensee Brad Heffernan baffled at how real it looked.
On Wednesday the $50 bill was reported to police after Mr Heffernan discovered the counterfeit note when counting the nightly takings.
"I've come across it and just gone Jesus," he said.
"It's a good one."
The business man picked up on the dodgy bill after noticing it was slightly decoloured and had a waxy feel.
"We didn't get the guy," he said.
Mr Heffernan, who has been at the Tweed establishment for four years, said he had never come across a counterfeit note this side of the border.
Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said six counterfeit notes had been reported to Tweed/Byron LAC in the past six months.
"Counterfeit notes come up every now and then" he said.
All of the bills reported were $50 notes and they were all passed on to the Australian Federal Police.
There were two reports of counterfeit $50 bills in November alone.
