TOP SERVICE: Customer Service Award winner Alannah Mann (front) from the Wollongbar Pharmacy with Rotarians Graeme Booth and Graham McLean, pharmacy owner Natalie Green, Chamber of Commerce president Lisa Dillon and Alstonville Rotary president Harry Pampels.

ALANNAH Mann only planned to live in Ballina Shire for six months or so on a working holiday.

But the customers of Wollongbar Pharmacy are lucky the pharmacist stayed on - and has now been here for 18 months.

Alannah last week was named as the winner of Rotary Club of Alstonville and the Alstonville-Wollongbar Chamber of Commerce's Customer Service Award.

She was pleased to accept the award - enjoying the moment as much as she and her husband are enjoying the local weather compared with their Tasmanian hometown.

They came to the area from Devonport.

The award was the brainchild of Rotarians Graeme Booth and Graham McLean - an idea which brewed over a cup of coffee.

Mr Booth said everybody experienced customer service, and the award aimed to recognise locals who provide excellent service.

They approached the Rotary club, and then the Chamber of Commerce and gained the support of both organisations.

Mr Booth said about 30 businesses were represented in the nominations for the award, which pleased the organisers.
