ALICIA Taylor wishes she was born in the 1950s.

While she may not have been alive during this swinging decade, Alicia, 26, is nevertheless inspired by '50s style.

The inked beauty, who by day is a property manager at Stockdale & Leggo real estate agents in Caloundra, is now in Sydney preparing to compete for the national title for Miss Pinup Australia.

Her pin-up alter-ego, Scarlet Tinkabelle, is the combination of an old nickname for being both short and a dancer and her love of the name Scarlet, which she thought was "a super cute way to embellish on the red splash in (her) hair".

Miss Pinup Australia is all about bringing classic '40s and '50s pin-up photography to life and is a pageant dedicated to finding true beauty, set against a time where it wasn't about how much skin was showing, but rather how you present, poise and hold yourself; in a time when beauty was more than skin deep; in a time of names like Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Gene Kelly.

This competition is Alicia's first for a pin-up title and said she never expected to make it this far through the pageant.

"It is quite surreal to have reached the final," she said.

"The whole experience has been great."

There are 57 people, both male and female, competing for the title which will be judged on four outfits as well as talent.

For Alicia, her talent is tap dancing and she hopes he routine will once again wow judges.

She said dancing had always been such a big part of her life and this experience lets her show off her talent.

The young Coast woman is joined in Sydney by fellow Coastie, make-up artist and hairdresser, Katie from Big Deal, Warana.

She said she couldn't do without her friend and stylist, who has joined her on her vintage adventure.

Scarlet Tinkabelle will compete for the title of Miss Pinup Australia on Sunday night.
