BURNS POINT FERRY - TEMPORARY CLOSURE
The Burns Point Ferry will not operate for approximately 13 days in early November due to essential annual dry hull maintenance.

The Ferry will be out of service from 5.30am Monday 5 November 2012 until 5.00pm Saturday 17 November 2012.

Burns Point Ferry customers are advised that alternative road routes are available.

Council apologises for any inconvenience this essential maintenance may cause and thanks you for your cooperation.

 

POLICY ON PUBLIC EXHIBITION
Council resolved at its Ordinary Meeting of 27 September 2012 to exhibit the new draft
Naming of Council Owned Facilities Policy for 28 days for public comment. The policy can be viewed at Council’s Community Access Points and website www.ballina.nsw.gov.au

TENDER MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNITY CENTRES (RFT633)
Council is calling tenders from suitably experienced venue management specialist(s) to undertake the management of the Alstonville Leisure & Entertainment Centre (ALEC) and/ or the Lennox Head Cultural & Community Centre (LHCCC) for a five year period.

Tender documentation can be obtained electronically via
http://tenders.ballina.nsw.gov.au/eTendering/ (new providers will need to register to access documentation) or in hardcopy from Council’s Customer Service Centre, 40 Cherry Street Ballina (a non-refundable fee of $55.00 applies to issue hardcopy documents).

Non-compulsory site meetings will be held at 9.00am (AEDT) Thursday 18 October 2012 at ALEC and 11.00am (AEDT) Thursday 18 October 2012 at LHCCC.

PUBLIC HEARING
PLAN OF MANAGEMENT - CRAWFORD PARK, ALSTONVILLE
Draft amendment No. 7 to the Ballina Shire Principal Generic Plan of Management for Community Land was placed on exhibition for public comment between 23 August and 8 October 2012.

The draft amendment proposes the recategorisation of approximately 4000m² of land on the northern edge of Crawford Park from “park” and “sportsground” to “general community use” and associated special provisions.  The aim of the draft amendment is to enable the establishment and leasing of the proposed Alstonville Community Preschool on this site.

Council will hold a Public Hearing in relation to the proposed amendment, pursuant to Section 40A of the Local Government Act 1993, at 6.00pm Thursday 1 November 2012 at the Alstonville Plateau Bowls & Sports Club, Deegan Drive, Alstonville.

PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO CLASSIFY OPERATIONAL LAND
On 26 July 2012 Council resolved to negotiate the purchase of two parcels of land in the Ballina CBD for the purposes of providing public car parking.  The subject properties are located at
74 & 78 Tamar Street and are identified as Lot 11 DP 238728 and Lot 6 DP 600044. 

The acquisition of these properties has been funded by Council’s Car Parking Reserve which is sourced from developer contributions levied under section 94 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

Notice is given, in accordance with section 34 of the Local Government Act 1993 that Council intends to classify both Lot 11 DP 238728 and Lot 6 DP 600044 as ‘operational land’ upon settlement.  Submissions are invited in relation to this proposal.
